Hi Diana, thank you so much for your comment. I actually just used a 6 inch wide stainless steel mixing bowl that I had as I didn't have a dome mould like the one Peggy used. My cake didn't turn out as perfectly domed as the one in the book, but it was a pretty good compromise. Peggy said she used half of a ball pan, but since I didn't have to bake my cake in mould the bowl worked just fine.

Thanks for all your comments everyone. I checked out the Times Baking contest, but the recipe you submit needs to be original, so since this is Peggy's it wouldn't be fair to submit it. I do have a few other original recipes I'm planning on making for the Diamond Jubilee, so I will submit one of them instead.

I also made these yesterday and they were fabulous! I took your suggestion and put 4 on a skewer and had a pretty plate full of the skewers. Everyone loved them.

FYI....I'd doubled the filling as I wasn't sure how many I'd do and had quite a bit left so I put the remaining in a graham crust, topped it w/ strawberries and blackberries. KILLER! Thanks for this recipe!

As I said on twitter, wow! I have the book and thought only a fantastically brilliant and confident baker would attempt it. Not only did you make the cake but it looks as fabulous as the one in the book, which means you are a superb baker and the instructions in the book are really good too.
Do enter it into the times, it is wonderful and inspiring for us lesser bakers.
